I Don't Need to Fight

Neutrals. Have you tried dark purple as a neutral? Dark purple is pretty hard to find, in my opinion, but I was able to find this great skirt through Amazon.com, and it's made in the USA! Still, when I decided today was the day for it, I wasn't entirely sure how to use it. It doesn't feel as neutral as brown, and I added the jacket to get it a little more neutral, along with the gold jewelry.

I think this has led me to believe that I need more neutrals in my wardrobe, so that I can expand what I've already got (they're like accessories!)

I've been tired and trying to get myself over some vitamin deficiencies, so less creativity has been thrown into Outfitland. Still, let's shake it up!!

Haven't been home in a year or more

I bought a house. I get the keys today.
I have to say - worse than closing, worse than changing my utilities, was dealing with Comcast. Ugh.
Glad that's over with.

I received some excellent Type 1 housebuying advice from another lady on the Dressing Your Truth forums. I was frustrated with the number of options and the fact that I was the final decision maker. I'm perfectly happy adapting to another person's decision, but at the same time, I didn't want to give my power away. Here's the summary of what she told me:

"Picture the fun you'll have in that house. The friends, the children, the parties, the food. Make sure there are good spaces for fun. And go with your gut."

Wonderful advice. And I tried to live it. I think my new house has some good fun spaces in it, and I am already planning the weenie roast to kick off me having a great backyard!

My face looks weird in this picture. Not a judgement, just a strange camera angle. Good thing it's about the clothes.

Check out this skirt! Finally a "wrap style" skirt that is well-designed!
Adorable shoes, anyone? (Yes I have abnormally tiny feet.)

In every condition in sickness in health

Whoa.

I've been having some mega conversations with one of my BFFs about being a Type 1. She's a 1/4, which has caused some confusion in her life. Overall, I think she's loving the journey. I'm so happy for her, and happy I finally opened my mouth and explained it to her.

I'm glad I wore this skirt today, since I love it. And the necklace I chose - a little substantial to keep me moving swiftly today. There's a lot changing in my life right now, and I wanted to be sure I could keep up :). Also, no boots today. That's been a while too!

The sun is shining, and it's a great day to be alive!

Type1ism of the day: That cheesy smile! I seem to always look like that in pictures :) Here's to April starting tomorrow. Cheers!

I absolutely love her when she smiles

I have a green pea coat. My mom bought it for me for Christmas, and we found it on mega discount at Old Navy. It was meant to be. It's kind of a Kelly green, which I love. What am I saying? I love green in most any shade. Hence my green work bag too, that I took with me to Sweden and Germany.

Well, it's Saint Patty's day, and I have no Irish ancestry whatsoever. Not detered by that, I still hitched up my green and headed to the office. I think I might be the only one in really bright green, but I have seen a lot of sage and olive around today. Maybe I can pretend I'm Irish.

I have an adorable sticker one of my coworkers gave me years ago, and it's still on my desk. It's a heart with shamrocks around it that says "I love the Irish" on the inside of the heart. She scratched out "the", and now it says "I love Trish!" How awesome is that! I guess I can be Irish since we share 4 letters of our name.

Type 1ness of the day: Oh the sun! It's been so dark the last few days with rain and overcast skies, but I am a sunshine addict! I truly am. I curl up in the sun like a cat, and go outside just to walk around in the tulips when the sun is out. It totally brightens my mood :).

Oh, and PS, this is the second time this week I've worn something tied around my waist. I think we might be on to something here. I could still use some practice on the scarf technique.

(Still need a haircut.)

I'll take you down the only road I've ever been down

Hoo-rah! I love that I feel like my closet has hit "critical mass." You know, that point where you have enough of the right clothes that there are almost endless possibilities? Pretty enticing for a Type 1, eh?

What do you think about how many clothing items you need? Especially as a Type 1? I feel like it was a challenge to get there, especially because I have to wear skirts 6 days of the week. Finding Type 1 skirts can surely be a challenge, but I feel like I've found some good ones. My best luck of all has been thrifting actually - I find great ones all the time, and many more that aren't in my size.

Type 1ism of the day: I remember Marcy talking about being a Type 1 and looking up at the sky. How centering it is for a Type 1. I completely agree. I'm the girl you find in the park, laying on my back and watching the clouds move. Since I work on the 5th floor of a high-rise office building, there's a great view of downtown. Too bad I don't have a window of my own. But there's a particular one I like to wander over to in the afternoons and look at the clouds against the mountains. This is a great way to center yourself as a Type 1 - go look out the window, look UP for a few minutes, and you'll feel a lot better. Ready to tackle your over-booked day! :)

Got this great skirt while thrifting on Saturday, along with the striped one I wore in the last post. I'm also wearing my Como Italy belt - I got it at the street market there in September. I've always wanted to pull off a belt like this, and I feel like this is my first success attempt. I balanced it with the gold necklace, and the sparkly skirt. I think not having a patterned shirt made it easier. Oh, and it's a little weird to say, but these type of belts fit best/work best when you have clothes on that aren't "giving you a muffin top" at all. Keep an eye out for that one :)!

Here's the sparkle detail on my skirt
This is the great hip belt I got in the city of Como, Italy. I was there in September for work, and we stopped at the street market to look around. This was my prized find. And, I finally feel like I am wearing it "correctly." Yee-haw!

Shopping for Type 1/3 eyeglasses

Here they are. I waited two whole weeks for them to be made! I found out in January that I needed glasses (I wore this outfit that day). In fact, I sat in the opthalmologist's chair and she pulled up the famous alphabet chart on the wall. She asked me to read them, and I was stumped. She said, "So, do you drive often?" Um, yes. Apparently, I'm not seeing life in clear focus.

I had glasses once upon a time in college, and they were actually Type 1 frames. I chose them long before I learned about living my truth. They were half frames, a very light pink, and very thin wire frames. I liked them a lot, but the prescription was totally wrong and gave me a headache.

When I headed out to buy my newest glasses, I went to Eyemasters. Mostly because they are close to my house. There was an employee there who was very helpful with picking out my frames, especially because I was overwhelmed with all the OPTIONS! Oh, the possibilities! She was a Type 2 herself, and really looked for what I wanted, rather than pushing me into a specific pair. Funny that she loved the pair I chose the most on me - they must be right!

Here's how we narrowed it down to the pair I chose. Hopefully these tips will help you:

1. How much frame do you want? For a Type 1, it's great to keep it light, so the half frames are a perfect way to create some "lightness." The square, black glasses are really trendy right now, but they are too heavy for a Type 1 face.

2. Color! Most frames, according to the girl at the store, come in two colors: black and "something else". Usually brown, or in some cases, red, purple, green, blue, etc. No black for me! Mine are a dark brown metal across the front of the frames. AND, they're lime green on the inside. Can you see the green?

3. The shape of the upper part of the frame: Choose something that has a little movement to it, not a line that goes straight across your face. That was actually the deciding factor in these frames, the fact that they curve a bit across the top, making them feel like there's a little upward movement in them.

4. Pattern: Mine, although you can't see in the picture, have a pattern on the outside of the ear bars (yeah, I don't know what those things are called.) It's a brown-on-brown pattern of different squares with some of the squares being a lighter brown, and some the darker brown. Totally perfect. A little movement on the side of my face!

5. Weight of the frames at the corners: I decided as we were going through frame after frame of non-black half framed glasses that one of my preferences was a little chunkiness at the corners. You can see on these frames that they are substantial corners, which is a nice shout-out to my Type 3 secondary movement. Find a way to honor your secondary, but make sure it keeps with the rules for secondary. That extra chunkiness is perfect for me!

6. These were cheaper than the other pair I liked: a red pair with cutouts of daisies going down the sides. They were cute, but these were the best. Like I said above, it was the shape of the upper frame (over the eye) that sold me on these.

Type 1 glasses sound hard to find, but I bet there's at least one great pair in every store! I looooove these glasses, and I can see so much better now too!

Three stained bleach spots, and a hole in the knee

Yeah, sorry there's no pants on this blog. With the frigid temperatures outside, I really wish they were part of my daily wardrobe. Sadly, they're not. That's why knee-high boots are great for keeping me warm!

We got some snow on Sunday, which finally cleared out some of the fog-smog-inversion thing that happens in Utah in January. I was glad to see the clear skies, even though it was painfully COLD! And I didn't even wear a coat to church. That was a silly move. But I didn't have anything that matched well, so I skipped the coat.

Type 1ism of the day: Although I do love the colors and stuff going on in the skirt, and it's very lightweight, I'm not sure how sold I am on full length skirts. The length might be just a little too downward for me, despite the fact that it helps to keep my legs warm. Almost all of my skirts are knee length, and I think that's the direction I should continue in, even though I did thrift this skirt for like $5 or something...

Hide your wives, hide your children.

I couldn't help myself on the title. My friend introduced me to Antoine Dodson, and he is awesome. I've watched that YouTube video a few too many times now...

Last night I went shopping with my mom. Shopping for both of us. She has this nasty habit of "taking me shopping" and then when we're at the store and there's something perfect for her, she refuses to buy anything for herself. Really, she's just trying to be responsible. But yesterday, I finally got to see her buy some great things for herself. One of my favorites of her purchases was a brown corduroy jacket. It's a little different than mine, but every Type 1, especially with a 3 secondary, should have a brown corduroy jacket. Well, if you like them, that is. But we found one for her at Ross with some big pointy (star points!) lapels, and it was $8.50, and it was perfect for her. Also scored last night for Mom was a purple long sleeve T with a paisley blue pattern (Kohl's), a mint green sweater (Ross), and a blue button up shirt with some really cool texture (Dress Barn). And all that for about $30! What a party it was!

Type 1ism of the day: Carol recently did a blog post about "each type on a bad day." I could see myself in the Type 1 statements, and I'm trying to work on taking responsibility when I drop the ball. Go team!

Now for today's outfit. My boyfriend likes to call this skirt and shirt my "nud-ey" outfit, because of the color, but when you combine it with the jacket and the boots, it's perfect-o. I love this outfit.

Oh, and see the curly hair?! Loving it today. Even if it is a little unruly (don't tell everyone else that it's the look I was going for.)

Sometimes I dislike this necklace, it might not be substantial enough for me. But with this outfit, it works.

Now the morning sun is shining

Howdy friends!

Type 1ism of the day: Last night I was heading out for a friend's house and left dinner boiling on the stove. It was on a fine heat, and when I came home, it was perfect. No need to supervise though!

I'm trying something...I found that I can take full length pictures in this little place at work.

I love this outfit! I love the combination of peach and red together. I love the print of the skirt (which you can hardly see in this picture). I love my new boots - they have the perfect heel height, and a cool buckle on the outside of the boot. And the walnut color is beautiful. I guess I need some better lighting though, so I'll work on that. :)
